The first step on my journey through the Final Fantasy series begins at the beginning - with the game now known as Final Fantasy I.
Originally released in 1987 for the NES, it's a title that carries almost as much lore around its creation as it does in the game itself - from near bankruptcy at Square, to the now-famous name.
In 2025, I'm playing the Pixel Remaster version on the PS5: a modernised take that adds a few quality-of-life features while keeping the spirit of the original intact. I'm going in with open eyes and maybe some nostalgia from the future, inviting you along as I catch up on what I missed the first time around.
