Final Fantasy I - Magical Mystic Key Tour

Fixing a Hole in the Marsh

This is the part I'm most concerned about, with it being a bit dicey last time, as I may have mentioned.

Having been accruing cash as I was travelling, I decide to invest in 10 each of Hi-Potions and Ethers at 150 gil each as a bit more of a safety net on our travels. I look at the Phoenix Downs at 500 gil, and decide against those though. Not today, death.

I head straight down to B3, knowing where I'm going this time and we all level to Level 17.

I head into the first of the locked doors at the bottom, and there's an evil looking character inside - a hooded blue cloak, hiding his face but just revealing glowing yellow eyes. In my infinite wisdom I talk to it and trigger a fight with another 4 Piscodemons - our boss from earlier effectively. Let's see if we've learned anything between now and then.

After one turn, 4 has become 2, so I think we're good as I switch back to just attacking them. My optimism is borne out, and we take them in the second turn. The chest they were guarding in turn also has 6 Anacondas in it. I'm starting to think this place is a bit nasty.

Two of the Anacondas critically hit Kaili and Glitz for around 70 damage, which scares me a little, but the numbers drop soon enough and it ends up being a safe fight. Turns out they were guarding a Silver Amulet, which sounds like it might upgrade someone's defence? Oh yes, Glitz having the least max HP gets it and jumps from 6 to 17 Defence.

The next locked room is a bit less ominous, just a single chest:

  • Monsters!

Four more Piscodemons... This time we just try and auto-battle, we'd healed up after the last room, so they're not trouble. And still give a nice 1200 gil and 1104 EXP. All four of them were protecting...:

  • An Antidote

Much easier to pick one up in town.

The next room just has some statues in it, I'm not sure what they are so we go to investigate. Nothing of note or to interact with that I can see, just with them being the same as in the room as the crown, I thought it was worth a try.

The last room has a chest flanked by 2 of those statues. What's the odds of it having monsters in it? We wander over and open it to reveal:

  • Monsters (called it)

Four Piscodemons ambush us, and all four of them appear to crit first Glitz, then Kaili 3 times! They're not looking good, and at 44 HP. Please no.

Clair pulls out a Cura for Kaili, and Glitz chugs a Hi-Potion to get us back on an even keel. After that, we try something new - Glitz tries his Slow spell out. It does nothing. We win fairly comfortably in the end though, and see what they were protecting:

  • 1020 gil

You could get a lot of Antidotes for that.
