Third Time's the Charm
Talking to the first person we meet in town and he tells us that they're the descendants of the race that once lived among the clouds - the Sky People. I wonder if he tells this to everyone who swings by, then wonders why no-one responds with interest because they couldn't understand a word he's saying.
It turns out our airship was built by one of their ancestors - a man by the name of Cid! There's something that's been missing from this Final Fantasy so far. I'm guessing if he's an ancestor we may not meet him, but I think there legally has to be a Cid for a game to even count as a Final Fantasy.
According to a member of the townsfolk, their prophecy foretells that 400 years after the fall of the sky civilisation, warriors bearing light will come forth to save our people. Assuming that's us, the prophecies around here seem pretty damn reliable - they're 2 for 2 so far. Possibly more, but I'm thinking of this and Lukahn's.
There's also talk of a flying castle, and the Mirage Tower it turns out is the gateway to that castle, so I think we have our next destination nailed down.
Apparently the Lufenians sent out five warriors who were turned into bats by the curse of the Fiends. I guess we dodged a bullet there, otherwise we'd be the ones "Kee"-ing in some cave somewhere.
We're also told that Tiamat is the Fiend who has taken on the sky fortress, which tracks with what the mechanical golem was talking about. Interesting that while it was made by the Lufenians, it actually spoke standard land-language.
Finally in the bottom of the east platform in Lufenia, an unnamed member of the towns folk gives us a Chime that will grant us entry to Mirage Tower. I think we dodged a frustration bullet there, just by being chatty. Otherwise there's not really anything to indicate that he was any more significant than the dozen other members of Lufenia's population.
