Tiamat
A quick look at the map confirms the Crystal is a straight shoot north from us, and there's not really anywhere else we could go between here and there. I decide that seeing as we're nearly there, I'm going to get the party up to Level 45 by running up and down for a couple of minutes.
With that done, we heal up at the top of the corridor just before addressing the orb in our way.
The lich, Marilith, the kraken...
You have defeated three Fiends and reached my lofty perch.
All the better... May the image of Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind, be the last to burn in your eyes!
It looks like Tiamat doesn't want to be friends.
They're a spiky-looking multi-headed dragon, so I'm expecting some nasty physical attacks in here as well as some wind elementals.
I set out by going on the offence with Rukus and Kaili, but with the fear of physical damage in mind, I get Clair to cast Protera, while Glitz can try Flare on him.
He hits Rukus for 85 damage before Clair can get her Protera off which confirms my suspicions. Rukus manages over 100 damage of his own, but it seems like Kaili might struggle here, only managing 8. Glitz on the other hand, torches Tiamat for 421 damage. I think I know what his plan is going to be in that case...
Looking at items as I take a look for something to Kaili to do I think it finally clicks how to 'use' the items that have that ability. I decide to test whether it's going to consume them by using a Healing Helm, as I have 2 of them, so at the very least I'd still have one in stock. Clair switches over to Holy, while the other 2 stay the course.
Holy hits for 274 damage, while Flare does 432, so magic could be the key here. Rukus only managed 32 himself, but I think it's still his best option. Heal goes off without a hitch and we still have the 2 items, score! In that case, Kaili is trying the Razer to cast Scourge this time.
Blaze hits everyone for a decent bit of damage, about 100 each, then Scourge misses, and the others do reasonable damage again. I'm hoping we're not too far away though.
I have Kaili switch back to the Healing Helm, but he doesn't get chance to use it as Glitz finishes Tiamat off with his fourth Flare of the fight.
That's our last Crystal made shiny. I do find it odd that for some of the things we get a fanfare for, like picking up an adamantine piece, we don't get one for the story progression and completion of a huge boss.
Anyway, we use the teleporter behind the Crystal - glad to see the shrine-makers had consistency in their layouts - and we're taken back all the way to the desert.
