Dragon Caves
These are the Dragon Caves, which is a bit ominous-sounding. We start the way we mean to go on though by looting the 3 chests for some gil. Then in the next store room a dragon is there who says:
Only the truly brave can obtain a token of their courage.
Is that us? The description of the Rat's Tail is "A token of valour and strength". That sounds close enough, particlularly the token part!
He's also not bothered about us raiding his chests, containing:
- X-Potion
- 9500 gil
- 2750 gil
- 1520 gil
I guess dragons are noted hoarders. I think we just need to pop in and out of this area from the world map though, using the airship to island-hop. We re-enter B1 of the Dragon Caves and are told:
Once, long ago, there was an age when man and dragon lived together.
Unfortunately, his cave is a dead end. We head up and out to the next one, which contains another dragon:
Once, long ago, the northland was filled with beautiful shrines and towering mechanical castles.
So very long ago...
The storeroom here has 2 dragons, and the first one we speak to lets us know that they have 'no love of senseless killing', so that explains why we're not getting caught up in any encounters. In this room we loot:
- A Cottage
- 1000 gil
- Elixir
We speak to the other dragon in the area and he says that if we are valiant warriors we should speak to their King - Bahamut. There's a nice familiar name.
We try the next island over and strike it lucky - entering the hall of the Dragon King. His staff tell us to keep in line, but apparently he can "look within" to measure a person's true courage.
Speaking to Bahamut, he immediately calls us "men of courage", which I guess I'll take for now. I guess this is the Rat's Tail coming into play. It's "a fitting token of courage and strength..." He offers us titles befitting our honour and all of a sudden we all have new clothes!
And more importantly new classes so re-meet the party:
Rukus - Knight Kaili - Ninja Clair - White Wizard Glitz - Black Wizard
It seems like they've all grown a foot taller and in Rukus's case particularly - buff as hell. I guess Bahamut just got them all to speed-run puberty.
