Final Fantasy I - From Utter Chaos to Calm

Chaos Intensifies

Maybe we need to be more offensive - Clair has Holy in her arsenal? We try it and it does 276 damage. I decide to have a couple of round of max damage output of Attack/Attack/Holy/Flare. He uses Firaga which is manageable and next turn Clair swaps Holy for Healara to keep us topped up. In the meantime, Chaos casts Haste on himself...

Glitz is running low on MP again, so I get him to give himself an Elixir for full recovery. Almost out of ironic spite though, Chaos hits Glitz and:

  1. Kaili: 6
  2. Glitz: 5

One hit kill...

Clearly Haste massively increased his physical damage output, because while Clair is Full-Life-ing Glitz back up, Rukus is hit for 600+ damage, placing him in critical health too.

I try to stop that by getting Glitz to cast Slow on Chaos, but it misses as he Curajas himself again...

I decide to have Clair Elixir herself to regain MP, and in the meantime:

  1. Kaili: 6
  2. Glitz: 5
  3. Rukus: 1

He's walloped again, and drops like a sack of spuds. Clair Full-Lifes him but now Kaili is on death's door after taking a smack from Chaos. Rukus takes 760 damage as Clair Curajas Kaili. This feels like it's going downhill rapidly.

  1. Kaili: 6
  2. Glitz: 5
  3. Rukus: 2

He's dropped again, as Clair's attempted Curaja on Rukus is wasted as it's redirected to a full-health Kaili.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing a trick here, because the periodic Curajas by Chaos seem difficult to outstrip in terms of damage. Plus he was making the point that he can't be beaten with that paradox. I tried to throw a Phoenix Down at him, but apparently I can't do that in this game....

While I'm thinking about that:

  1. Kaili: 7
  2. Glitz: 5
  3. Rukus: 2

Across from Kaili's downed body, Glitz decides that if Haste's good enough for Chaos, it's good enough for us, and he sets away Haste-ing Rukus and Kaili once they're raised. Glitz also Hastes himself and then just out of spite:

  1. Kaili: 7
  2. Glitz: 6
  3. Rukus: 2

Chaos one shots hit, immediately followed immediately by:

  1. Kaili: 8
  2. Glitz: 6
  3. Rukus: 2

And Kaili's on their back too.

Also by this point, the damage output from our guys seems almost random. Rukus is taken down to 2 HP, and despite having Haste, only manages 106 damage, so less HP definitely does not mean more damage...
